Parent Update Re: Covid19 19/03/2020

Dear Parent/Carer

I hope that you are all safe and well at this difficult time. We are all following closely developments as the Coronavirus develops across the country. As you are aware we took the decision to close the academy due to staff shortages and the rising anxieties of both staff and students about the transmission of the virus. At this time we all want to keep safe.

We have very robust plans in place for delivery of lessons and we have posted the hard copy packs on Thursday 20th March to you all which I hope that you have received in case your child doesn’t have access to the internet. For those of you with access to the internet, lessons will continue via google classroom. If you run out of work, please let me know and we will send you more. All our staff are working at home and therefore they can provide you with specific work for any subject if and when you need more.

In regard to our parents/carers in receipt of free school meals. We are working with the local authority to provide vouchers which we will post out to you on Monday 23rd March.

The Government has now listed an updated list of key workers. It is a slightly different situation for us, as the majority of our students are in KS4 and our parents/carers are generally happy for them to be at home. However if both parents/carers are key workers and you do not have a responsible adult at home then please let me know.

It is very disappointing for our year 11 students, following the announcement about the cancellation of GCSE exams. The majority of our year 11 students have been working so hard to complete coursework and to study for their exams and we understand their disappointment. We will be putting together, teacher assessed levels using all the information, coursework and mock results that will give an accurate reflection of potential GCSE grades that we will submit when requested to do so.

If we are allowed, we will of course still hold our suits day for year 11 but we may have to wait for a little while to confirm a date. We will continue to award dojo’s for attendance, behaviour and work to enable our students to still earn money whilst they are working from home.

This situation seems to change on a daily basis and I will try to keep you updated via our website, letter and text. Your child’s personal coach will be in contact with your child on a daily basis and we will work hard to maintain the strong relationships that we have developed with both you and our young people since they joined us at Stone Soup Academy.

As always if you have any concerns or questions then please contact me or you could speak to your child’s personal coach and they will pass on your message.

Take care and keep safe.

Kind regards

Kerrie Henton
