Parent Letter Term 6 July 2023

Dear Parent/Carer

Firstly, I would like to start with a huge thank you for all the support that you have given to the Academy throughout your child’s time with us. It is hardly believable that Stone Soup Academy has now been around for a long time and this year we celebrated our 10 year anniversary. We are so very proud of what we have achieved during that time. More of which, you will be able to read about in our Stone Soup newspaper, out in September.  We are now reaching the end of another exciting year and as we head towards the end of term, I want to make sure that you are fully updated as to arrangements moving forward.

Term 6 at Stone Soup is always such a joy for students and staff alike. It is jam packed with exciting fun activities and our young people love it. We started this term with Media and Music day, which was a mixture of film, music studio workshops and singing. We then had Art and Photography day and the Stone Soup Summer Games which was filled with laughter and fun. Spring Lakes came next, which all students loved, and this was closely followed by a trip to Drayton Manor. We end this term with our Stand Up To Knife Crime event that is now in its third year. Again, it will be held at Confetti in the City and free tickets are still available from Eventbrite. It will be a great evening of music and powerful messages about the prevention of knife crime. All this and we are still teaching and educating our young people to achieve great things in their futures!

Our year 9 young people transitioned to High Pavement at the start of July, to become part of KS4. During their transition we focused upon option choices and looking beyond what they might do next year and also looking much further ahead to possible careers, with a focus upon linking their option choices to what they wanted to do in the future. We also gave them taster sessions for Motor Vehicle off site.

This term we have started a piece of work led by our Parent Engagement Coach, Siobhan Stevenitt. You will have received a letter via email outlining a desire to work closely with parents to improve what we do with and for your children. We also wanted to complete with you a short parent survey which I hope that you will help us with.

So, as we hurtle towards the end of term I thought that it would be useful to outline arrangements for the end of term.

This academic year will end on Thursday 27th of July. Students will be released to go home at 12 noon.

Students will return to the academy on Monday 4th of September:-

  • Year 10 and 11 students will return at 9 a.m.

  • Year 9 and Stepping Stones will return at 9 a.m.

All students should be in School by 9 a.m. and before 9.15 each morning. Any time after this is late.

As with every holiday, our Engagement team will be making contact throughout the holidays just to make sure that our young people are enjoying their break. Should you have any concerns then please do not hesitate to contact us.

I hope that you have a great holiday and we will see you at the start of September.

Kind regards

Kerrie Henton

Principal
