Dear Parents/Carers,

As some of you may be aware, October is Black History Month. To celebrate this we are providing our students with a variety of opportunities, such as taking part in workshops in cooking, creative arts and music. As well as watching some informative educational films in form time hopefully sparking some great conversations and learning opportunities.

We are also rolling out a whole school competition inviting students to create a piece of work around Black History Month. This can be anything from a poem or any written piece, a photograph to a piece of music or art. The more creative the better. We have a £20 Amazon voucher for the winner from each of our year groups. We are really looking forward to judging the students’ fantastic creations.

On Friday 16th October we will be providing students and staff with a Caribbean themed buffet lunch. This will consist of:-

  • White Seasoned Rice
  • Rice and Peas
  • Chicken Wings
  • Chicken Strips
  • Fish Strips
  • Saltfish Fritters
  • Mac and Cheese
  • Fried Dumplings
  • Plantain
  • Corn
  • Sweet Potato and Chickpea Curry

Bun and Cheese and Hard Dough Bread along with Beef Patties made by the students in the cooking workshops will also be available at break time alongside our usual selection of cereals.

This is a great opportunity to try new foods but if you feel that your child will not eat the food provided then please send them in with a packed lunch.

We hope this will be an enjoyable week for all and a fantastic way to end our first term back at the Academy.

Please let me know if you have any questions or queries.

Kind regards
