Dear Parent/Carer

I am so sorry for the inconvenience but due to the red extreme heat warning, and the subsequent impact upon the health of both students and staff, I have taken the decision to close the school on Monday and Tuesday.

Remote learning will be put in place with all lessons provided either live online or through Google Classroom. We will also be calling students both in the morning and afternoon for attendance purposes and welfare checks.

Please take note of the following advice regarding the heat.

Top tips for staying safe in hot weather include:

  • look out for those who may struggle to keep themselves cool and hydrated – older people, those with underlying conditions and those who live alone are particularly at risk
  • stay cool indoors by closing curtains on rooms that face the sun – and remember that it may be cooler outdoors than indoors
  • drink plenty of fluids and avoid excess alcohol
  • never leave anyone in a closed, parked vehicle, especially infants, young children or animals
  • check that fridges, freezers and fans are working properly
  • try to keep out of the sun between 11am to 3pm, when the UV rays are strongest
  • if you have to go out in the heat walk in the shade, apply sunscreen and wear a wide-brimmed hat
  • avoid physical exertion during the hottest parts of the day
  • make sure you take water with you if you are travelling
  • take care and make sure to follow local safety advice if you are going into the water to cool down
  • check medicines are stored according to the instructions on the packaging

Please see below what a red extreme heat warning means.

Please keep yourselves safe and well during this heat. I look forward to welcoming your children back to the academy on Wednesday at normal time.

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me

Kind regards

Kerrie Henton
