Dear Parents/Carers

I hope that you are enjoying your half term holiday. It has been a really busy term at Stone Soup Academy with lots happening for our students. One of the highlights was our victory in the Nottingham alternative provision football league, which we won and we were undefeated in all the matches. The students who played were superb and we were really proud of them as they returned with a huge cup for our trophy cabinet.

Just before the holidays the students in year 9, 10 and 11 completed their exams. These exams were a mix of Btec exams, functional skills exams and mock exams. All our students performed really well in the exams and we are hopeful of some really positive results.

As you will be aware, the Government is organising for the NHS to offer Covid vaccinations for students aged 12-15. Our next round of these vaccinations will be available in the academy at High Pavement on Monday 28th of February. Please let your child’s personal coach know if you would like your child to participate.

We are continuing this term to focus upon improving the reading ability of all of our students. As part of our reading strategy we are providing lots of opportunities in all subjects. One opportunity coming up this term is a visit from a reporter who will be working with the students in their English lessons.

As we move into term 4 our focus continues to be, the support of our year 11 students as they move ever closer to their exams. We will continue to offer additional time on a Friday afternoon for any students who would benefit from additional time. We are also putting in a programme of engagement activities for all students on a Friday afternoon. These will include Ice Skating on the following dates:-

Friday 25th February
Friday 25th March

We are also offering all students the opportunity to be taken out for a meal on Friday afternoon on the 11th March. There will be no cost to you for these activities as we believe that it is so important to develop relationships and engagement both in and out of the classroom if we are to get the best from our young people in their studies.

This coming term is 6 weeks long and we will finish for Easter on Friday 1st April. We also have a training day on Friday 18th March when the academy will be closed for moderation of year 11 coursework.

As we hopefully move towards better weather please could I remind parents/carers about our expectations of clothing worn to the academy. Although we don’t have a uniform we will not accept crop tops/tops that show tummy’s or tops that are too revealing, any clothing with inappropriate messages or bottoms that are too tight or revealing. Any student who arrives in inappropriate clothing will be sent home to change and return to the academy.

We look forward to welcoming all of our young people back on Monday 21st of February at their usual times. In the meantime if you have any concerns or questions then please do not hesitate to contact either myself or your child’s personal coach.

Kind regards

Kerrie Henton
Principal
