Parent letter December 2019

Dear Parents/Carers

It is difficult to believe that we have almost reached the end of 2019 as we are fast approaching Christmas. It has been another fantastic term at Stone Soup Academy as we work hard to fulfil our vision of ‘Creating Unimagined Futures’ for your children.

The new term in November started with a local MP visiting the Academy. She was shown around and was very impressed by what we achieve with your children on a daily basis. Also, on the first week back our students attended and participated in WE day, the first for Nottingham. WE day is a social enterprise which focuses upon what we can all do for the communities in which we live. We were so proud when 2 of our year 11 students stood up on stage in front of 1500 students and staff and talked about Stone Soup Academy. It was a joy to behold!

We are at the formative stages of a new project. If it comes to fruition will see some of our students having the opportunity to be involved in a documentary for TV. I will keep you posted as this develops. This is alongside a project that is happening at the end of this term which is focused upon hope and will be filmed and produced for National Careers week.

We are continuing work experience with Crowne Plaza and we have started work experience with Trent Bridge Cricket. In February we have also confirmed our first project with John Lewis when 6 of our young people will commence a 6 week work experience. We are hoping that as with Crowne Plaza that this will become a regular part of our curriculum offer.

The other exciting news that we have, is that 2 students and Ollie our Head of Engagement are finalists for the Nottingham Post Education awards. We are so proud of them all.

The end of this term is going to be exciting with Christmas Dinner for our students on Wednesday 18th December. On Thursday morning on 19th December, our football team are playing Denewood Academy and at 12 noon we are going out to Cosmos in town as our end of term trip for students.

To attend this reward our students in year 9 and 10 will need to have 90% dojo for their behaviour and our year 11 students will need to have completed their speaking and listening for their GCSE English. Hopefully it will be well attended and great fun.

Students attending will be released after the meal from 2 p.m.

Our last day this term is on Friday 20th December. It is going to be great fun with Tutor activities in the morning, then lunch and an early finish at 12.30.

Students will return to school on Tuesday 7th January at 9 a.m.

2020 looks to be an exciting year for Stone Soup Academy. I am personally very excited about the great potential shown by our students, as their approach their exams, their options and their transition both to High Pavement for Year 9 and to College, work or training for our Year 11 students. I think that you will agree that it is amazing what we can all achieve working together.

Thank you all for your continued support

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Kind regards

Kerrie Henton
